Go read Donald Hall's Without, it's the most amazing paean to loss and love, and one of the few poetry books I really care about. I feel guilty about that, I should love and embrace poetry but instead it seems less than prose. Instead of being whittled down to it's core it seems more fluffed up and on display, peacock like than simple prose. Carver's short stories are so much cleaner than his poems.
